We are very sorry to announce that Jim Cox, one of the original group, died on Saturday March 7th after collapsing while acting as a marshall at an LDWA event the previous Saturday. Jim was one of the team of 2 that surveyed, waymarked and described sections 6 and 7 of the route. His quiet contribution will be sadly missed. Our thoughts are with his family
The Relay Challenge 2020
We will now be running the challenge just once in 2020
Clockwise in September/October .
New for this year- an open class (minimum 5 runners) , the original is now called the handicap class and needs a minimum of 3 females and 3 runners aged 50+ (so a minimum of 6 runners). See the relay challenge page.
Temporary Diversions on Stages 1 and 5
There may be diversions in Ironbridge from 30th September 2019, possibly lasting as long as August 2020. The effect on the route is relatively small and is on a part where we use the Severn Way. Diversions should be signposted by the contractors.
Currently, February 2020, we are advising there is a diversion between Jackfield and Ironbridge. Going clockwise : Continue on the track past the level crossing gates, as in the route description, until you get to the footpath closed sign. Go right up a short slope to a path that leads to the rail bridge, turn right onto this path and go straight on down past houses to Riverside Road, turn, cross the road and cross over the Jackfield free bridge , then turn left and walk uphill along the road to Ironbridge. When you get to Severn Way steps just past Valentino Row go down the steps on the left and follow the riverside footpath path past 'coracle shed' and continue to the Iron bridge.
Or an alternative, slightly shorter, but less scenic route:-
Don't cross the Jackfield bridge. Turn left and walk uphill along the road to hairpin where you turn right into Ladywood (signed Ironbridge CP) and walk through Ironbridge car park to the Ironbridge.
Also, you need wellingtons to follow the route South of the Little
Dawley Pools currently (Jan 2020). You can take a route slightly to
your Left (going Clockwise ) to avoid this.
Getting Telford Walking - Not now on May 24th 2020
Following last years' successful event we were planning another in May. This has now been cancelled , or possibly postponed to the autumn.
See the GTW page
Michael McCarroll, Duane Roberts and Brian Taylor completed the trail on September 15th 2019, running anticlockwise, in 10 hours and 54 minutes. Well done.. As far as we know they is the first to do this. and this is the fastest all in one go time. See the Hall of Fame.
First solo runners complete the trail in the Anticlockwise direction
in a new fastest time
1st Lilleshall and Muxton Scouts
Our chair presented certificates to some of the Ist Lilleshall and Muxton Scouts who did a special 40 mile version of the trail last weekend. 5 people did the whole route with support of others for parts of it. There were 50 beavers, cubs & scouts who took part altogether along with parents (and two dogs). Each did as much as they were able. So, these photos show only a small selection. Well done all.
