January 2026. Rotunda Steps
As the steps are likely to be closed for some time, we suggest this diversion. Instead of the blue line which is our route, follow the purple line. Turn left instead of right when you hit the path around the bottom of the hill. Continue on until you reach an enormous finger post. Turn right here up a diagonal path until you reach a junction. Here either turn right and continue to the rotunda where you do an about turn , and you are back on the usual route (this add 0.2 miles to your route) or, turn left on the original route (taking 0.3 miles off the distance) . January 2026: Oilhouse Coppice (just before Woodside)
We have just been told that "there are still trees down on part of the stage 1 route. You can climb over or around but its not ideal depending on your ability. I've circled where they are. There are a few on the track coming up behind the saplings once you have come up through Oilhouse coppice. ". If you can't get past them it would probably be possible to go up the steps on the right (just inside the circle) to the open area, then eventually turn left to reach the picnic benches.
January 2026: Storm Goretti
We know that this has caused considerable damage in several places , with many trees being down. As we get specific news of long lasting problems we will post them here. The image is of the descent from the Wrekin to Wrekin Course. This stretch is passable with care,
December 2025 Woodside
This is the field between Orchard Lane and Beech Road (just after the Beeches local nature reserve,). The path by the field boundary is difficult to follow at present. The remedy is to venture further into the field. There may also be horses in the field.
