Transport Links to and along the Trail

 

Walking routes from the Town Centre to the Town Park Information Centre near the Trail start are signed; look for information boards, signage and finger posts as you pass through Telford Town Centre.

 

Telford Bus Station is a short walk from the Trail start. All stage start points, except Little Wenlock, are served by local buses. There are local services from many intermediate points directly on or close to the Trail. 

 

Telford Train Station is a short signposted walk from the Town Centre. There are frequent buses between the bus station and the train station, a few minutes journey. Trains run between Wellington, Oakengates and the Town Centre. All three rail stations are served by trains from Shrewsbury, Wolverhampton, Birmingham. Telford and Wellington have direct trains to Wales, the North and connections to the rest of the UK.

Pay to use parking is abundant near the Town Park for Stages 1 & 7, in Ironbridge for Stages 1& 2 and Wellington for Stages 3 & 4 with free car parks in Oakengates for Stages 5 & 6. There are free car parks by Little Dawley Pools and opposite Blists Hill for Stage 1, below The Wrekin Forest Glen CP for Stage 3, and at Granville Country Park for Stage 7. There is on street car parking available at other stage and intermediate points but please park with consideration for local people and business.

Stage 1 Telford Town Park to Ironbridge 

No 19  (Shrewsbury, Ironbridge, Telford), No 8 (Telford, Ironbridge, Jackfield,  Broseley, Bridgnorth. No 18 (Telford, Madeley, Ironbridge, Much Wenlock)

There is a bus stop adjacent to the Trail at the 5 mile point at Woodside. No 1 (Telford Town Centre to Madeley circular via Dawley, Brookside, Halesfield (peak times only) Sutton Hill, return via Woodside, Aqueduct and Dawley) No 2 (Telford Town Centre to Madeley circular -as above opposite direction) No 4 (Leegomery to Madeley via Princess Royal Hospital, Wellington, Oakengates, Telford town Centre, Stichley, Woodside, Madeley) 

 

Stage 2 Ironbridge to Little Wenlock 

Frequent services to Ironbridge (see above).  No 19 bus also stops adjacent to the Trail in Coalbrookdale at Darby Rd near the museum.

 

Stage 3 Little Wenlock to Wellington 

No bus service to Little Wenlock. No X4 bus stops at The Wickets in Wrekin Rd close to where the Trail crosses the Holyhead Rd after leaving The Ercall woods.

 

Stage 4 Wellington to Horsehay 

Buses from Telford to Wellington Bus Station include No, 7, X4, X5, 15, 4, 16. The No 15 passes close to the Trail in Dothill. There are services between Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton via Wellington.

 

Stage 5 Horsehay to Oakengates 

The No 19 bus serves different parts of Horsehay; the steam railway is well signed and known; seek directions to there if in doubt,

There are intermediate stage bus stops at Lawley retail centre by Morrisons and Holyhead Road just north of Paddock Mound in Ketley.

Stage 6 Oakengates to Lilleshall 

There are frequent buses from Telford Bus Sation and most parts of North Telford to  Oakengates Bus Station on Bus No.14, 7,15,4, 5, 5A. Muxton on the 5, 5A service is a convenient intermediate stage point.

 

Stage 7 Lilleshall to Telford Town Park 

This stage is well served by No 5, 5A service Telford Bus Station  via Oakengates, Muxton, Donnington (5A), Lilleshall.. It continues to Church Aston, Newport and Stafford.
