Optional Spur to Newport

The town of Newport lies to the north east of Telford New Town and lies is within the Local Authority area of Telford and Wrekin. It is well worth exploring in its own right with many interesting historic features and surrounding countryside. It is possible to walk to and from Newport starting from Lilleshall at the end of Stage 6 via the northern section of The Hutchison Way. This long distance path between Wellington and Newport via Telford Town Centre was devised as as a memorial to the late CEO of Telford, David Hutchison, whose vision it was to create a network of paths that enabled people to walk through this beautiful and historic landscape. The T50 50 Mile Trail honours and completes that vision and The Hutchison Way is named in David's memory. The path is currently in need of re waymarking and clearing in parts. Telford and East Shropshire Ramblers have 'adopted' the path and are waiting for new waymarks from The Council.  Once this is done we will publish full details on this website.
