Start at the car park on New Works Lane (where the Hutchison Way crosses). Go through the pedestrian gate into the field heading towards New Works and the woods. Keep left as the footpath forks. When you reach the T junction with the next footpath turn left and you will emerge onto New Works Lane at the start of the Trundle. Pause here to admire the view (there is a convenient seat).

Walk up the road , on the T50 anti-clockwise, through New Works village. You may spot  converted miners cottages on your right, there is information about these, amongst  other things, on the notice board by the bus shelter.   Turn right at the bus shelter, still on the T50. Soon the entrance to the Smalley Hill nature reserve is on your left. This is well worth a detour.   Continue on the road on the T50 until the last farm house,  leave the road here, still following the T50. Take a right turn with the T50 , There are excellent views of the Wrekin and beyond here. Follow the track downhill, there are several interpretation boards just off the track.  At a prominent junction the T50 turns left  (in bluebell time it is worth following the T50 to the top of Short Woods then retracing your steps.) but you keep straight on. At the next junction fork right, you will be able to see the car park from here.
