Telford Coronation Walks

Walk Number

20

Dawley

Little Dawley Pools and more

Telford was originally going to be called Dawley New Town as this was then the biggest town in the area with 8,000 people. Dawley’s history of mining and industry is still visible, with its old Victorian buildings still there in the High Street. Disused tramways, railways, the ruins of old canals, former pit mounds and furnace pools are now parts of Local Nature Reserves, full of wildlife. This walk goes past memorials to local heroes and disasters. There are remnants of old farms and villages in Little Dawley. Highlights include outstanding views of The Wrekin, even the Shropshire Hills and Brown Clee, Shropshire's highest hill, might be glimpsed in the far distance on a very clear day.
